Homemade Organic All Natural Lip Balm ~ Without Lanolin!!

My mom and I decided to try making some lip balm on Sunday while they were up for a visit. It turned out really good and we were both happy with it, so here is how you can make your own! And, as a bonus, there is no lanolin!

Ingredients:
3 Tablespoons Organic Coconut Oil
1 Tablespoon Organic Shea Butter
2 Tablespoons Organic Beeswax
3/8 tsp Essential Oil of your choice (we used Orange)

Step 1:
Melt the beeswax on the stove-top, stirring regularly. I used a mason jar placed into a pan of hot water. Using a BPA-free tin can would also work good because then you don't have to try and wash it out afterwards.

Step 2:
Measure out the coconut oil and shea butter.

Step 3:
Once the beeswax is completely melted, gently add in the coconut oil and shea butter. Continue to stir so it melts evenly.

Step 4:
When everything is melted, add in the essential oil and remove from heat.

Then put a tiny drop on your finger and let it set (it took about 10 seconds). Then try it out. You can adjust the essential oil at this point to add more if you would like.

Step 5:
When you are happy with the fragrance, begin pouring it into your lip balm containers. I am using a tiny funnel and BPA-Free Lip Balm Tubes . You can really use any container you would like.

Step 6:
Let them set up and then add caps to them.

We were very happy with how they turned out! It made 17 tubes and took us less then 10 minutes to do.

Here is the cost breakdown...
Coconut Oil ~ 3 Tablespoons = $.40
Shea Butter ~ 1 Tablespoon = $.42
Beeswax ~ 2 Tablespoons = $.50
Essential Oil ~ 3/8 Teaspoon ~ $.25
17 BPA-Free Chapstick Tubes ~ $3.36

Final Cost per tube: $0.33!! That is a crazy good deal for organic lip balm. Most organic lip balms retail for $3+ per tube!!

Weekend Fun

It was crazy hot this weekend! Ugh! We spent a lot of time inside in the air conditioning (which I am super thankful for!!)

Friday night mom, Gramma, Gabriella and I headed to the theater to see Monster University in 3D. (I had two free tickets of course) We had a great time!!!

Silly girlie in her glasses!

Saturday morning I hosted my Carefree Couponing Workshop with my sister in law. It was good. We had a great time and it went really good. We are looking forward to having another one.

The kids spent the morning with Matt and then it was naptime at my mom's.

Crashed out!

Gabriella took forever to go to sleep! I took this video of her while I was lying on the bed next to Xander. The silly things kids do when no one is watching them.

Saturday night was my Shake Your Udis Boogie Your Buns house party! James was showing off his tattoo and bracelet.

Mmmmmm, BBQ!

Our House Party guests!

After dinner we went swimming. Here is Xander's first time wearing a lifejacket.

And sound asleep Saturday night. He is the biggest bed hog ever!!!

Family Campout!

We finally got to have our first family vacation and camping trip of the year! It was so fun and relaxing!!!

Xander was "helping" me pack

We headed over to Valley of the Rogue State Park (woohoo, only a 15 minute drive from GP!) and took dinner with us. After we got dinner eaten and cleaned up we headed for a walk on the Rogue River walking trail.

Friday the kids didn't fall asleep until 11:30pm and woke up at 5:30 am! Yikes!!

Matt took the kids down to the river in their jammies while mom and I got breakfast going.

Brave girl going in the water with daddy!

After breakfast we played a little game.

Mom, Gabriella and I played cards while the guys all ran to a few yard sales.

It was SO hot!! Gabriella sweated it out in the tent for about 20 minutes at nap time before she woke up crying. She cried for about 40 minutes after she woke up saying over and over, "I just don't know what the matter is!"

A wet scarf on her head and a brownie made her cheer up!

Xander's creepy eye half open while he sleeps!

Dad trying to cool off with a wet scarf.

Matt took Xander in the airconditioned trailer to try and sleep. We went in a couple hours later to get a snack and Matt opened his eye at us. Gabriella immediately ran over, patted him on the arm and said very quietly and sweetly, "It's okay daddy, just go back to sleep."

Love this silly face!

Xander trying to take Josie for a walk.

Love this crazy boy!!

This might just be my new favorite picture!

Silly girls!!

Gabriella picked Ariella to brush her teeth.

Saturday night the kids crashed out so quick! Gabriella actually told Matt to stop talking to her because she was tired and wanted to sleep!

Sleepy girl!

Xander crashed out after some milky.

Xander going crazy in the tent in the morning (he slept til 8:30, yay!) and Gabriella still sound asleep.

Just wearing Ariella's glasses.

Having a morning snack

Gabriella after Ariella did her make-up!

Silly cousins!

We decided to leave camp early and head to my parent's house for lunch and swimming (we were tired of sweating so much the day before!!)

Gabriella ready to get in the pool!

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Swimming in the turtle floaty!

Both kids crashed out about 4 miles down the road on the way home.

We had such a great weekend and a fun trip! I sure love my family!!
